PDP - Goal 3: Developing my Interpersonal Skills
Objective
The aim is develop my facial expression when I am teaching, changing intonation when I’m teaching by showing excitement, making eye contact and develop my relationship with the students
HCT teaching competences
Critical reflection: this goal is linked to the critical reflection competence since I had to improve my interpersonal skills based on my MST and MCT feedback. I have reflected based on their feedback and tried to develop each area.
Implemented strategies
-
Being aware of when and how to change the pitch of my voice.
-
Building positive relationships with the students.
-
Constantly changing my face expression for example, smiling.
-
Responding to students’ feedback on what they want to change in the classroom
-
Readings that supported the goal
The book Teacher’s Pocket Guide for Effective Classroom Management discusses how close a teacher should be with her students and why is it important to build a positive relationship with her students in chapter 4 (Knoster, 2013)
This chapter allowed understanding that in order to have an impact on the students it should start with allowing the students to get to know you and this will develop their trust.
Reflection
I was able to achieve this goal successfully since I was aware of each action that I was taking during class. I smiled more to students and greeted them in the beginning of the class; I made small conversations with the students in the whole way, which made the students feel important.
This goal made me realize that being a teacher is not just about having the ability to deliver the content, its more than that. A teacher should make the students feel safe, always have positive energy to keep the students motivated, make eye contact when speaking to students or when you want to deliver a message without speaking, changing the voice and showing enthusiasm.
Developing my interpersonal skills was one of the best accomplishments because now I am more aware of how body language and face expression really make a difference in conversations.
Evidence
These are screenshots of the lesson plans feedback from my MCT that insures that I have reached this goal successfully. My MCT and I have disscussed diffrenet ways that I can improve in these areas and I made sure that in each visit I show her that I am improving.

This is another example from my final MST report to prove that I have achieved this goal.
